Οι κάτοικοι μετακινούνται με βάρκες για να πάνε στις δουλειές τους. Σε μερικά σημεία τα νερά είναι τόσο ορμητικά, που οι κάτοικοι δεν μπορούν καν να βγουν έξω για να ζητήσουν βοήθεια από τις αρχές.

Γύρω στους 600 στρατιώτες έχουν κινητοποιηθεί για να βοηθήσουν τους πληγέντες. Ωστόσο, όπως σας ενημερώσαμε από χθες, οι Βρετανοί παραπονιούνται ότι η κυβέρνηση ανταποκρίθηκε πάρα πολύ αργά.

Σπάνιος "κόκκινος συναγερμός"

Στο μεταξύ η Μετεωρολογική Υπηρεσία στη Βρετανία προέβη σε στην έκδοση ενός σπάνιου «κόκκινου συναγερμού», καθώς από νωρίς το απόγευμα και έως τη νύχτα άνεμοι ταχύτητας περίπου 170 χιλιομέτρων την ώρα αναμένεται να πλήξουν τα δυτικά παράλια.

Όπως αναφέρει το ΚΥΠΕ, οι άνεμοι θα προκαλέσουν ζημιές σε κτίρια, θα ξεριζώσουν δέντρα, ενδεχομένως θα προκαλέσουν προβλήματα στην ηλεκτροδότηση, ενώ θα δημιουργήσουν και τεράστια κύματα που θα σκεπάσουν παραλιακές περιοχές. Συστήνεται στους κατοίκους των περιοχών αυτών να μην κυκλοφορούν στους δρόμους.
Την ίδια ώρα, ανοιχτά των δυτικών ακτών και στη Θάλασσα της Ιρλανδίας αναμένονται άνεμοι ισχύος 12 μποφόρ, με αποτέλεσμα να έχουν διακοπεί όλα τα ακτοπλοϊκά δρομολόγια.

Οι ισχυροί άνεμοι θα χτυπήσουν περιοχές που είναι εδώ και εβδομάδες πλημμυρισμένες.

Επικρίσεις και σήμερα κατά Κάμερον

Το πρωί ο πρωθυπουργός Κάμερον προήδρευσε ακόμα μίας σύσκεψης της επιτροπής αντιμετώπισης εκτάκτων καταστάσεων Cobra, ενώ δεσμεύθηκε πως η κυβέρνηση θα καλύψει τις οικονομικές ανάγκες των πλημμυροπαθούντων. «Τα χρήματα δεν αποτελούν ζήτημα», επανέλαβε το μεσημέρι ο κ. Κάμερον από το βήμα της Βουλής των Κοινοτήτων. Η κυβέρνησή του δέχεται επικρίσεις για ανεπαρκή αντιπλημμυρικά έργα.Σημαντικά εξακολουθούν να είναι τα προβλήματα και στις μετακινήσεις, κυρίως στο σιδηροδρομικό δίκτυο που καλύπτει τη δυτική Βρετανία. Κατολισθήσεις, πλημμύρες και υποχωρήσεις εδαφών έχουν απομονώσει αρκετά χωριά.
