Deadline Day: Arsenal look to win race for Roma's Manolas
Calciomercato are reporting that Arsenal have beaten Inter Milan, Barcelona, and Chelsea to signing Greece star Kostas Manolas from AS Roma on Deadline Day.
The Gunners look to have stolen a march on their Premier League, LaLiga and Serie A rivals with a 55-million-euro bid for the coveted centre-back.
According to whoscored.com, the Giallorossi are willing to allow the 27-capped Greece international to leave, but only this summer, not today.
Manolas is also reportedly on Manchester United’s radar, in addition to Arsenal, Chelsea, Inter, and Barca.
The 25-year-old’s current contract has another two-and-a-half years remaining, and was expected to sign a new deal with Roma at some point this season.
Arsenal captain Per Mertesacker is rumoured to be leaving this summer, with the idea being that Arsenal don’t want to give up their defensive talisman up during the current campaign.
The Gunners are apparently willing to wait, having already beefed up their back line with Shkodran Mustafi, whoscored.com reported.
Calciomercato revealed that when Manolas plays, Roma concede an average 0.88 goals per game, while they ship in 1.2 goals when he isn’t there.
