UN expresses full confidence in Eide
The UN has expressed its full confidence in the UN Secretary General Special Adviser Espen Barth Eide, the organisation’s spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said on Monday.
Dujarric said that the UN believes Eide is doing a good job.
Asked, during his regular briefing, about some reports in the Greek media saying the Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias has sent a letter to the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, accusing the Special Adviser of lobbying for the Turkish side, instead of acting as a UN mediator, and whether he would confirm that the Secretary General has received a letter by the Foreign Minister of Greece, Dujarric said he will check the information.
"I haven’t seen the letter, but we have full confidence in Mr Eide and the fact that he is very much doing his work as a UN Special Advisor and doing a very good job," he noted.
On Monday, at a meeting of the National Council in Cyprus, political party representatives expressed concerns about the process, which they said seems to be stalling.
Some parties raised an issue with Mr Eide, citing the letter sent by Kotzias to the UN Secretary General.
