Greece-China want Cyprus solution based on UN resolution
Greece and China favour a just solution to the Cyprus problem on the basis of UN Security Council resolutions, reports said on Thursday, about meetings Chinese Presdent Xi Jinping and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras had in Beijing.
Cyprus has been divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion. The latest round of UN-led peace talks is currently underway between the island`s two communities with a view to finding a negotiated settlement to reunite the country.
Both countries declare their commitment to the UN Charter and to the peaceful settlement of disputes and express their intention to strengthen their cooperation within the UN for the treatment of global challenges and in particular terrorism.
They also undertake to promote trade and cultural cooperation and maintain maritime order based on international law, including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
