Youth involvement in civil society stressed in parliament
The sixth meeting on civil society, convening in the parliament on Wednesday, underlined the importance of youth involvement in non-governmental organisations (NGOs), CNA reported.
Addressing the meeting, at the initiative of the Pancyprian Volunteerism Coordinative Council, Parliament President Demetris Syllouris said that its goal is to highlight certain aspects of the issue concerning the engagement of young people in NGOs and to identify problems which discourage their participation in these activities, with a view to promote measures for their substantial contribution both in volunteering and in NGOs’ management.
Syllouris stressed the need for the young people to be active in volunteering, which he said is the response to isolation and individualism which prevail in society nowadays.
He also noted that volunteering/non-governmental organisations act complementary to state intervention towards decentralisation.
