Limassol mayoral elections recount request filed

A request for a recount of votes in Limassol has been submitted on Tuesday, SigmaLive has learnt about elections held in December.
In the December election, Nicos Nicolaides beat incumbent mayor Andreas Christou by ten votes.
SigmaLive learnt that that the request for the recount was signed by the former mayor Andreas Christou, Limassol parliamentarians (MPs), Andreas Kafkalias and Costas Costa, EDEK party member, Petros Alexakis, and the Head of the Animal Rights Party, Costas Kyriakou.
However, DIKO MP Panicos Leonidou did not sign the request, despite information that he would also be signing.
SigmaLive has also learnt from legal experts that the request will also be taken to Limassol District Court, 2-3 months from today, in order to have the process for the recount finalised.
The same legal experts told SigmaLive that there appeals are expected to be filed, which could delay the process.
However, SigmaLive has learnt that the work of the municipal council will not be affected by the process, as the request deals with the mayoral elections.
