19 tourists were struck by lightning in Knossos, Crete
A lightning strike hit this afternoon at the ancient palace of Knossos, on the island of Crete, injuring 19 Russian tourists.
A 46 year-old tourist had a heart failure, possibly by the shock caused, and has been hospitalized at Venizelio Hospital, Heraklion.
All other wounded tourists had been brought at the same hospital.
The archaeological site has lightning rod.
However, according to first estimates, the incident occurred since the Russian tourists were wandering in the rain, under trees, while holding umbrellas.
Other tourists claimed that after a deafening noise was heard, most visitors fell to the ground, wounded and in horror.
The scene has been evacuated by police officers due to carry out further investigations on the case.
