AEK hold on to defeat Tsmoki-Minsk
Petrolina AEK Larnaca nearly wasted a 24-point advantage but fought off Tsmoki-Minsk 73-68 to collect their second victory in Group V of the FIBA Europe Cup.
AEK put together an 18-1 run in the first quarter to open a 27-13 lead. The margin grew to as many as 24 points midway through the third. Tsmoki-Minsk chipped away and trailed by 17 points after three quarters and opened the final frame with the first 10 points. The Belarussian team cut the deficit all the way down to 70-68 with just over a minute to play. But Brandon Bowman scored and then AEK stopped Tsmoki-Minsk on their final three possessions to grab the victory.
AEK picked up 15 steals to just six for Tsmoki-Minsk, and produced 22 points off turnovers to 14 for the guests. AEK also collected 50 points in the paint while Tsmoki-Minsk scored 30 points.
Bowman was the star of the game for AEK with 23 points, six rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block.
AEK improved to 2-1 in Group V with a second straight win in front of their home fans. Tsmoki-Minsk dropped their second game on the road and fell to 1-2 in the group.
