Kontides adds to medal collection with Miami WC silver

Cyprus’ London 2012 Olympic sailing silver medalist Pavlos Kontides added to his collection yesterday, bagging the ‘Laser’ silver at the Miami World Cup.

In an official announcement issued today, the Cyprus Sailing Federation congratulated Kontides “for his new success in Miami” and hoped that 2017 would “bring even greater success” to the sailor and the island’s other professional athletes.

France’s Jean-Baptiste Bernaz picked up the gold medal and Britain’s Lorenzo Brando Chiavarini completed the podium with the bronze medal.

Following his win, Kontides posted on Twitter, adding his congratulations to his fellow sailors.

Sailing governing body, World Sailing, also offered their congratulations to the winners.

Kontides’ latest medal follows on from last month’s gold at the 2016 ISAF Sailing World Cup in Melbourne, Australia.

At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Kontides was unable to make it to the podium after finishing seventh in the men’s Laser medal race.
