Carver: “Title isn’t finished" following crucial AEK win

Omonia boss John Carver said “the championship isn’t finished with this match” after watching his side defeat table toppers AEK Larnaca 2-1 at GSP Stadium on Sunday.

Goals from Fanos Katelaris (37) and Matt Derbyshire (54) were sandwiched by a strike from Acoran (50).

"For me AEK are currently the best team in the league,” said the ex-Newcastle boss. “They play very nice football,” he said.

“The championship isn’t finished with this match. We’ve got two big derbies coming up [against AEL and APOEL) and we must be ready.

“We mustn’t get carried away. It was our best game this season.

“It was an extremely positive match for Cypriot football,” concluded Carver during his post-match talks.

Round 11 proved to be a very useful one for Carver’s side as AEL defeated APOEL 1-0 on Saturday, meaning Omonia are four points behind AEK and two behind the defending champions.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Apollon Limassol had no difficulties seeing off Karmiotissa with a 6-0 win.

Anorthosis visit Ethnikos Achna on Monday.
