Former Newcastle boss John Carver gets Omonia job
Former Newcastle United boss John Carver is now the new Omonia manager after the club announced the appointment on Saturday.
The 51-year-old Englishman is currently in the US for personal reasons but reports are suggesting that he’s cut his trip short and is presently Nicosia-bound to begin working with his new side.
Carver is best known for his long association with Newcastle United, stretching as far back to 1983 as a youth player and most recently as boss in 2015 steering the side to Premier League safety.
Carver’s previous managerial appointments were with Leeds United (caretaker – 2006), Toronto FC (2008–2009) and with Sheffield United (caretaker – 2010).
Omonia’s new technical director Nikos Dabizas also has strong connections with Newcastle having played for the club between 1998-2004 and clocking more than 100 Premier League appearances.
The former Greece international undoubtedly would have been a huge influence on Carver’s new appointment who will look to build on his side's fourth place league finish last season and upcoming Europa League qualifying campaign.
