Pafos FC suffer relegation heartache after Ethnikos draw
Pafos FC suffered relegation heartache on Sunday after drawing 1-1 at home to Ethnikos Achnas.
Pafos needed to win the crunch relegation playoff clash with their opponents to stay up, while Ethnikos got the draw they needed.
Ethnikos’ late season form proved crucial to their survival with the visitors unbeaten in their last seven games (four wins and three draws), while Pafos’ poor end to the season (one win in nine – five defeats and three draws) ultimately proved to be their downfall.
After 36 games Ethnikos ended on 39 points and Pafos on 36.
On Sunday Ioannis Hadjivasilis initially put Ethnikos ahead after just four minutes.
Pafos hopes were raised when Charalambos Demosthenous levelled matters 16 minutes later, but their hopes would ultimately be dashed come the full-time whistle.
