Apollon edge closer to top 3 after Ermis Aradippou victory
Apollon Limassol reduced the gap on third-placed Anorthosis to just two points after seeing off Ermis Aradippou on Monday night.
Pedro Emanuel’s side have now made it five (league and cup) wins on the bounce, responding well to last month’s entertaining 3-2 loss away to the Old Lady.
At Ammochostos Stadium, the Limassol giants initially fell behind after just five minutes. Chris Dickson controlled well inside the box before taking the ball past Bruno Vale and finishing well from a tight angle.
The visitors equalised 11 minutes later via an Anton Maglica header. The Croatian responding first to Dimitris Stylianou’s save from João Pedro’s powerful left-footed drive from distance.
Five minutes later Dickson turned from hero to villain when he fouled Pedro inside the box for a penalty. Brazilian Alex da Silva stepping up and finishing with ease.
Ermis missed a glorious chance to snatch a point right at the death when Dickson, again involved, agonisingly struck the post from close range when one-on-one with Vale.
