Emergency National Council meeting to be held on April 24
An emergency National Council meeting has been called for on April 24 following the results of the referendum in Turkey, SigmaLive learnt on Tuesday.
According to SigmaLive’s information the National Council will meet after a request filed by opposition parties in Cyprus.
The plan is to discuss the latest developments in Turkey and the marginal win of the “YES” vote during Sunday’s referendum.
The National Council will meet following a new round of Cyprus talks between President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader on April 20.
Members of the National Council are also expected to discuss Turkey’s escalating threats in Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), SigmaLive learnt.
Turkey has been issuing new navigational telex’s (NAVTEX) in the island’s EEZ recently, with the latest being issued on Tuesday. The NAVTEX foresees exercises being conducted in the Cypriot EEZ with the use of weapons.
