Kotzias: Remove foreign troops from Cyprus
Guarantor powers and withdrawing foreign troops from Cyprus, were all on the discussion table at the meeting Espen Barth Eide and Nikos Kotzias had on Monday.
The UN Secretary-General Special Adviser (Eide) and the Greek Foreign Minister met and had an “honest discussion” for two hours.
Kotzias said, “I insisted on the need to decide on a final solution on the issue of guarantors and the withdrawal of foreign troops from the island.”
The Greek FM filled the UNSG Special Adviser in on all the concerns Greece has on the Cyprus issue and the way he sees it playing out.
Eide: The international community is doing whatever it can to support Cyprus
On his part Eide expressed his satisfaction on the meeting he had in Athens and the opportunity that was afforded to the two to have a “substantial discussion” on Greece’s stance on the Cyprus problem.
He added that it is a real opportunity to solve the Cyprus issue soon, since the international community is making every effort to support Cyprus and co-ordinate the attempts being made to reach a solution.
Eide will be meeting with the President of the Republic, Nicos Anastasiades, and the Turkish-Cypriot leader, Mustafa Akinci, on Tuesday.
