Cyprus approves Εgypt's request to extradite Seif Eldin
Nicosia District Court approved today an application by the Egyptian authorities to extradite Seif Eldin Mustafa to Egypt to stand trial in connection with the hijacking of an Egyptian Airways aircraft on March 29, 2016 at Larnaca International Airport.
The Court was not convinced by the evidence presented that Mustafa will be prosecuted for his political views, and accepted his testimony for committing the offence.
The Court also took into consideration assurances from the Egyptian authorities that he will receive a fair trial and his rights will be safeguarded.
The Egyptian man took over EgyptAir Flight MS181 last March, threatening to blow it up. He was wearing a white "suicide belt" that later turned out to be fake. The Airbus A320 was carrying 56 passengers from Alexandria to Cairo, along with six crew and a security official.
