Kouyialis says one step left for halloumi to get PDO status
Cyprus’ Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Minister, Nicos Kouyialis, has told Radio Proto that “one step remains” before the island’s world famous halloumi cheese gets Protected Designation of Origin status.
“The process was completed and the European Commission decision is expected within three months,” Kouyialis told Radio Proto on Monday morning.
The Minister added he is hopeful that “very soon efforts will bear fruit and there will be no surprises. We have sent a robust file and we substantiate that halloumi is a traditional Cypriot product.”
