Cyprus and Israel to cooperate in the sectors of culture
Cyprus and Israel have signed a programme of cooperation in the sectors of culture, education and science, for a period of three years (2016-2019), during an official visit of the Cypriot Minister of Education and Culture Costas Kadis to Israel.
Kadis visited Israel between 22 and 23 of June, at the invitation of his Israeli counterpart Naftali Bennett.
At the meeting with Bennett, Kadis noted the importance he attaches to further strengthening the cooperation of the two countries in the field of education and especially in higher education.
The Israeli Minister has accepted the invitation of the Cypriot Minister to visit Cyprus with representatives of Universities and Research Centres of Israel to continue the dialogue and to identify areas of common interest for cooperation in higher education.
The two Ministers signed a programme of cooperation between the two countries for the period 2016-2019, in the fields of culture, education and science and briefed each other on the reforms promoted in their educational systems.
Kadis visited the University of Tel Aviv and the Weizmann Research Centre where he discussed ways to promote cooperation between academic institutions of the two countries, both to develop common curricula and for cooperation in the framework of European and other programs.
In a meeting with Israel`s Culture and Sports Minister Miri Regev, Kadis discussed the role of culture in enhancing the relations of the two countries. They also sought ways to strengthen cultural cooperation in the framework of the programme of cooperation signed earlier with the Minister of Education of Israel.
The Cypriot Minister visited Israel`s Holocaust museum and memorial “Yad Vashem”, the Patriarchate of Jerusalem and the Holy Sepulchre.
