Authorities examine incidents of sexual abuse in schools
Public opinion has been shaken from the revelation that 5-6 years old school girls have suffered sexual violence from their male counterparts. It seems that the fact came to light due to a young girl’s confession to her mother.
The complaint submitted by parents to the Ministry of Education and the Children's Rights Commissioner alleges that the first harassment case occurred last November.
Leda Koursoumba, Children's Rights Commissioner, stated that actually it is more about mimic rather than conscious acts.
At this point, the Director of Primary Education, Mr. Elpidoforos Neocleous claimed that it is an isolated case. Amid that concerns, however, the case will be examined in depth by investigation officers.
According to reports from the Ministry of education, the affair is now in the hands of child psychologists.
