Sigmalive at Eastern Mediterranean Gas Conference
The most recent geopolitical, commercial and technological trends in the field of gas exploitation and excavation are in the heart of the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Conference which is being held in Hilton Hotel, Nicosia, on Tuesday and Wednesday 17-18 March.
This year’s conference is conducted on the threshold of rapid developments in the field of gas and energy taking place in the wide Eastern Mediterranean area.

Mrs. Toula Onoufriou, President of the Association of Hydrocarbons held open the possibility of natural gas transition through floating platforms which make possible the interface between Aphrodite field and Cyprus. In addition, the proposals made by international organizations are indicative of a potential future involvement and also show their great interest in program’s funding.
Mrs. Onoufriou also added that a development of a specific technical plan is on the way, in order to find a way forward for natural gas transformation directly from Egypt.
Finally, Mrs. Onoufriou pointed out that Cyprus can have an important role to play as an energy hub in the future, fuelling the production, the development as well as the exportation of natural gas.
“Aphrodite” is usable and exploitable!
President Anastasiades was informed about the ambitious plan to enable Aphrodite’s further exploitation by Noble’s representatives, led by the Senior Vice President of the Eastern Mediterranean Keith Elliott. Amongst other things, Mr. Elliott informed the press: “In Noble Energy, we feel proud for including Cyprus among our partners”
Lakkotrypis to foreign bidders: “Hydrocarbons for sale”
Minister of Energy, Yiorgos Lakkotrypis, described the situation of great importance, as h it is the first time for Cyprus to play a vital role in the hydrocarbons’ research and extract procedure. He also added that Noble Energy will submit an aspiring development plan for Aphrodite’s exploitation within the next few weeks. Finally, he particularly welcomed Noble for the cooperation, stating that the Government of Cyprus anticipates a very fruitful culmination of the procedures, even if there is a long way to go, especially in terms of trade agreements.
As for President Anastasiades, he appeared to appreciate Noble’s position on the issue. Furthermore, he declared the full support of the State of Cyprus on the company’s plans for the exploitation of the natural gas.
