Snow on the Parthenon: snowfall continues across Greece
Snow has also fallen in Athens, with the 2500-year old Parthenon covered in a fine layer for one of the very few times in its lengthy history!
Heavy snowfall is due to affect much of Greece over the next few days, the meteorological service of the country reported on Wednesday.
Specifically, snow is expected to fall in Epirus, Thessalia, the Peloponnese, western Greece, central Macedonia (including Thessalonika), eastern Macedonia, and Thrace.
Rain is expected in eastern Greece, the north and northeastern Aegean island, the Cyclades, and the Dodecanese.
The meteorological service has said that the temperature is expected to rise tomorrow, and that rain will fall in areas affected with heavy snowfall, causing roads to become dangerous.
The low pressure system affecting the region caused a flight from Paphos to Thessalonika to be diverted to Athens this morning.
