EU: working on contingency plan to Greek humanitarian crisis
The European Commission is currently making contingency plans to deal with a potential humanitarian crisis in Greece, European Commission spokesperson Natasha Bertaud said on Friday.
"At this time we are preparing an emergency plan, 'a humanitarian aid mechanism' in order to avoid a humanitarian crisis in Greece," she said.
There were an estimated 25,000 refugees and migrants currently in Greece, she added, with daily arrivals fluctuating between 2,000 and 3,000.
Bertaud also hailed a promise by Greek Defence Minister Panos Kammenos to have an additional 20,000 temporary hospitality places ready in northern Greece over the weekend.
