Public TV channel ERT to be re-opened
A draft bill for the reopening of former public broadcaster ERT was voted by majority in Parliament plenum late on Tuesday.
"A debate was completed during which a broad consesus was reached," State Minister Nikos Pappas said adding that the government's aim is to restore at all levels a sense of justice.
It’s closure sparked a wave of protests and the withdrawal of a partner from the coalition government at the time.
ERT which cost 300 million euros a year to run was replaced with a slimmed down broadcaster named NERT, which is expected to be merged or absorbed by ERT.
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras hopes its reopening will heal a great wound in the country’s bailout programme.
