ENI's energy dreams include Cyprus as well
The dream of Italian energy company ENI includes Cyprus and Egypt, Cyprus Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis said after a meeting with the Egyptian President.
The Cairo Post had reported that ENI’s Claudio Descalzi had met with Egypt’s Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to discuss creating a hub of natural gas in the Eastern Mediterranean aimed at making Egyptian transport and export facilities available to neighbours’ discoveries.
“This is a discussion which we had with the ENI CEO, when he met with Cyprus’ President. He presented us with the dream for the region, which includes Cyprus and Egypt,” Lakkotrypis said.
He added that, of course at this point, there is the major discovery of natural gas in the Egyptian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), which is set for the countries' domestic market. Lakkotrypis said that ENI is having talks with the Egyptian government as he had last week on this issue.
