Demetriades: Cyprus offers advantages to Chinese market
Transport Minister Marios Demetriades laid out Cyprus’ comparative advantages in the business sector at a conference organised in Beijing, on Thursday night.
Demetriades told the attendees about the island’s development plans for the next two years.
“We have started a very ambitious privatisation programme, which includes the telecommunications sector, Electricity Authority, state-owned property, state lottery, ports and the stock exchange, and all these present investment opportunities,” Demetriades told the conference.
Demetriades said the port privatisation process has entered its second phase and is expected to conclude by March 2016, adding that “this process opens great prospects for the private sector”.
He also referred to the marinas of Larnaca, Ayia Napa and Paralimni, saying that the government aims to enrich its tourist product.
There are ample opportunities to increase the tourist flow between Cyprus and China, he concluded, describing the island’s advantages to the market.
